Over 450 COVID-19 Cases Reported in Italy
The number of COVID-19 cases in Italy has surged, reaching 453 infected individuals according to the latest reports from the BBC Russian Service.
In just one day, the number of confirmed cases in the country increased by more than one-third; on Tuesday evening, there were reports of 323 virus carriers. Twelve people have died, and three have recovered.
The majority of infections have occurred in Italy's northern industrial regions, particularly in Lombardy, with Milan as its capital. Venice and its surroundings follow as the second most affected area.
Government representatives have announced that they are taking all necessary measures to prevent further spread of the disease. Schools, universities, and cinemas are being closed throughout the country, and several public events have been canceled.
Due to quarantine measures, some towns with a population of 55,000 have been locked down. According to reports, there are concerns that the coronavirus outbreak could lead to a recession in the Italian economy, as many hotels and cafes in the city are empty.
