Over the last three years, around 200,000 foreign-registered vehicles have entered Kazakhstan from Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia, with 40,000 of those accounted for. The low prices of cars sold in Armenia have attracted Kazakh buyers who have come to purchase these vehicles and transport them back to Kazakhstan. They have been driving these cars without registering them, using Armenian license plates, and without clearing customs.

Under the law, a foreign-registered vehicle cannot remain in Kazakhstan for more than one year. It must either be registered or taken out of the country. However, many Kazakhs are not prepared for this process, as it turns out to be more expensive than the car itself.

Currently, the police in Kazakhstan are facing a significant issue. Hundreds of thousands of vehicles with foreign plates are breaking the law, but authorities are struggling to locate their owners. These vehicles are speeding, committing murders, and organizing robberies, yet the police are unsure of where to send fines.

The police urge Kazakh residents not to waste time and register their cars. However, drivers express their dissatisfaction, insisting that they were misled.
