Lebanese Armenians Massively Relocating to Canada Amid Ongoing Crisis
The newspaper «Ժամանակ» reports that the political and economic crisis in Lebanon continues to escalate. The Lebanese currency has depreciated significantly, losing nearly 50 percent of its value within a month, there is no dollar available in banks, and inflation continues to set new records.
The Armenian community in Lebanon, known as the oldest among the diaspora and considered a Mother Community, is on the brink of total extinction. Lebanese Armenians and Syrian Armenians residing in Lebanon are massively applying to the Canadian embassy in that country for relocation to Canada.
According to our Lebanese sources, Canada warmly welcomes families that are young and have two or more children. As painful as it is, no one seems to consider returning to Armenia.
