A Normal Person Can't Come There: YSU Lecturer on Araik Harutyunyan's Resignation

I have a very negative assessment of the minister's behavior; he speaks without listening to the other person. This was stated by Ruben Sakapetoyan, professor at Yerevan State University (YSU), in an interview with Tert.am, addressing the meeting between Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Araik Harutyunyan and lecturers, as well as provisions in the draft law making Armenian studies subjects non-mandatory in universities.

“Rita Sahakyan asks whether there is evidence that Armenian language specialists are involved in corruption, as claimed, and the minister responds, 'We will send boxes of data to your brother's party. What does your brother have to do with this?'” he said, assessing the minister's responses as unserious.

“All specialists are offended because the issue is being distorted, making it seem that people are only thinking about their positions and schedules, whereas it is known that these Armenian studies subjects are essential for shaping worldviews and are necessary not only for Armenologists but for all students in general,” he noted.

Regarding the demand for the minister's resignation, Ruben Sakapetoyan mentioned that he is not interested in such matters since they are political issues. “I know that if this gentleman is removed, another similar person will come in his place; a normal person can't come there,” he stated, adding that when specialists speak, there is no attention paid, and all specialists are disappointed by the minister's approaches.
