168 Hours: Price Increases Again

According to the newspaper "168 Hours," there are no extraordinary price increases in the Armenian market. However, leading up to the New Year, the price of beef, which has already risen, is expected to increase further.

“The price of beef has increased by about 300 dram, and now the prices of pork and lamb are also expected to rise. The herd size has decreased significantly and there is also a shortage of animal feed. They are slaughtering quickly. The grass is drying up, and regional administrations are unable to organize the accumulation of feed, resulting in animals being sent to the slaughterhouse. In the past, we have produced and received combined feeds both in Armenia and from Russia. This ensured both quality and milk yield. It is simply difficult for farmers today, and the government is not performing its duties adequately. The 'Combined Feed Factory' in Yerevan still exists, and everything could be organized there,” said Hrach Berberian, president of the Agricultural Association, in an interview with 168.am.

It's worth noting that beef with bones costs 3350 dram in the Armenian market, while ground beef is priced at 3290 dram. As for rumors that the price of buckwheat has risen since September, Hrach Berberian indicated that it may have increased slightly and imperceptibly. Our discussions with citizens revealed that, if the price of quality buckwheat fluctuated around 800 dram in previous years, it is currently between 820-910 dram.

In fact, the majority of buckwheat consumed in Armenia is imported from Russia, and according to local media reports, the price of Russian-produced buckwheat has increased by 20-25 percent in recent months. In October of this year, the wholesale price of buckwheat in Russia surpassed 40 rubles, whereas in the same month last year, it was around 24-24.1 rubles. Farmers attribute the price increase to this year’s low yields.
