The State Support Program for the Implementation of Small and Medium Greenhouse Enterprises Approved

The government has approved the State Support Program for the Implementation of Small and Medium Greenhouse Enterprises. Deputy Minister of Economy Varos Simonian noted that greenhouse enterprises provide operators with the opportunity to achieve stable and guaranteed high yields from a given area throughout the year, with minimal risks related to climatic conditions.

“The proposed investment in small and medium greenhouses will encourage agricultural enterprises to transition from low-cost to high-value agriculture, which implies agriculture that meets modern technological requirements,” Simonian told Armenpress.

At the same time, the management of greenhouse enterprises and the production of competitive products require knowledge and timely application of innovations. The goal of the program is to increase the area of greenhouse enterprises and the volumes of production through state support for the construction of small and medium greenhouses and their technological provision, boost the competitiveness level of produced goods, and contribute to the increase of incomes for agricultural operators.

During the implementation of the program over the next three years, it is planned to build greenhouse enterprises according to modern standards, with a total area of about 35.0 hectares, increase yields and the volumes of greenhouse products by about 3,600 tons annually, reduce costs through increased efficiency and productivity, and raise the income levels of operating entities along with their competitiveness.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the importance of the program's implementation and stated, “We tell our compatriots that if you build a greenhouse with these models, we will reimburse up to 50% of your expenses in cash. In other words, if a person takes a loan or invests their own funds to construct according to the appropriate standards, we will reimburse 30 to 50% of that amount. This is a very good program, and we have had similar programs in the past.”

The Prime Minister instructed to widely inform the public and beneficiaries about the details of the program: “We currently have shortcomings in terms of awareness of these programs. They are not being implemented to the extent we expect, and one of the reasons for this, I assume from my communication, is that people are simply unaware,” said the head of the government.
