LIVE: Yerevan State University Students Marching to Other Universities Demanding Araik Harutyunyan's Resignation
Students from the Faculty of Armenian Philology at Yerevan State University are marching to various universities to raise awareness about their demands. The students are calling for the resignation of the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Araik Harutyunyan.
The participants of the march plan to head towards the Ministry’s building to resume their sit-in protest. Earlier, members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation’s youth organization and YSU students announced an indefinite sit-in in front of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, demanding Harutyunyan's resignation.
The demand has been sparked by the controversial funding of the performance “HuZank u Zang” for which the Ministry allocated 2,700,000 AMD, as well as a new bill from the Ministry proposing to make the subjects of “Armenian Language” and “Armenian History” non-mandatory in universities.
