Firefighter Samvel Develyan Posthumously Awarded the Medal of Valor
Firefighter Samvel Develyan has been awarded for his selflessness and courage while fulfilling his official duties.
Samvel Develyan, a firefighter from the Gugark Fire and Rescue Squad of the Lori Regional Rescue Service, has been posthumously awarded the Medal of Valor by the President of Armenia following his death during firefighting operations in the Bazum Mountain Range in the northern part of Vanadzor.
“Based on the Prime Minister's recommendation and according to Article 136 of the Constitution, as well as Subsection 1 of Article 5.3 of the Law on State Awards and Honorary Titles of the Republic of Armenia, firefighter Samvel Vardan Develyan from the Gugark Fire and Rescue Squad of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia has been posthumously awarded the Medal of Valor for his selflessness and courage while fulfilling his official duties,” states the decree signed by Armen Sarkissian.
It is noteworthy that on October 25, during major firefighting efforts in the forests of the Bazum Mountain Range in Lori province, two firefighters sustained burns. During the operations, a sudden wind arose, engulfing the firefighters in flames. One of them, 22-year-old firefighter Samvel Develyan, lost his life. He was also a participant in the April War. The other firefighter, 27-year-old Edgar Grigoryan, suffered severe burns and was transferred from the Vanadzor Medical Center to the Yerevan Center for Radiation Medicine and Burns. He has 40% of his body surface burned.
