One Person Killed and Two Injured in Dispute Over Red Jacket

The investigation into the murder of a 22-year-old man and the infliction of gunshot wounds on two others has concluded within the Kanaker-Zeytun investigative division of the Yerevan city investigative department of the Republic of Armenia's Investigative Committee. Charges have been filed against a 23-year-old individual.

The Investigative Committee's department for information and public relations reported that as a result of extensive measures taken during the investigation, several details were clarified, including the crime scene, motive, and the identity of the alleged perpetrator, who is a resident of Yerevan born in 1996.

The preliminary investigation has yielded factual information indicating that on April 14, 2019, between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM, the 23-year-old resident, along with a friend in a vehicle owned by his friend, encountered an old acquaintance, Musheg Gevondyan. During their conversation, a dispute arose over a red jacket, during which the 23-year-old physically assaulted M. Gevondyan, causing bodily injuries.

Furthermore, it was revealed that on April 15, 2019, between 9:00 PM and 9:30 PM, the 23-year-old met again with M. Gevondyan and two of his friends to clarify the matter concerning the beating of Musheg Gevondyan related to the red jacket dispute. During this meeting, with minimal provocation for revenge, the 23-year-old fired two shots at M. Gevondyan and one at another friend using a 7.62 mm caliber firearm that he had illegally obtained. Afterward, he fired one shot towards the rear of the BMW 318 vehicle that M. Gevondyan was inside, resulting in a fatal gunshot wound to M. Gevondyan, while inflicting medium injury to one friend and severe injury to the other.

Based on the collected evidence, the 23-year-old has been charged under Article 118, part 2, points 1 and 10, and Article 235, part 1 of the RA Criminal Code. He has been placed under arrest as a measure of restraint. The completion of the preliminary investigation has been declared, and the criminal case has been sent to court with an accusatory conclusion.
