Gun Taken and Fired: Details on Police Officer's Killing
The Head of the Public Relations and Media Department of the police, Ashot Aharonyan, provided details on his Facebook page regarding the attack on police officers that occurred in Yerevan at night.
"On the night of October 16, around 4:30 am, police officers from the Arabkir Division of the Main Department of State Protection noticed two individuals near the entrance to the 'Victory' Park. Upon seeing the patrol car, the two fled. The police pursued them and arrested them on Abovyan Street. The arrested individuals resisted. During this encounter, one of them seized the service weapon of one of the officers and shot at one officer, while also striking another officer with the grip of the gun. The officers fled the scene. As a result of the gunshot wound, 38-year-old Tigran Arakelyan, a police officer from the Arabkir Division, died."
A criminal case has been initiated. Operational-investigative measures and investigative actions are being undertaken to clarify all circumstances of the incident, identify the perpetrators, and locate them.
