Three Turkish Ministers' Assets Seized in the US, $100 Billion Deal Canceled
US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order authorizing the Treasury and State Departments to impose sanctions against certain Turkish officials and entities.
In a statement from the White House, it was noted that a joint decision from the Treasury and State Departments could place a freeze on the assets of certain current and former Turkish state officials in the US, which threaten Syria's security, stability, or territorial integrity.
The US Treasury Department has also issued a statement indicating that sanctions were imposed against Turkey due to the 'Peace Spring' military operation being conducted in Syria.
The statement mentions that Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu, and Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Donmez have been included in the sanctions list. In addition to these individuals, two ministries—Turkey's Ministries of Defense and Energy—are also targeted by the sanctions.
According to Ermenihaber, a freeze will be placed on the assets of the individuals and entities listed, preventing them from engaging in any transactions with the US.
It is noteworthy that Trump had previously announced a decision to increase the tariff rate on steel imported from Turkey from 25% to 50%. Furthermore, negotiations regarding a $100 billion trade deal between the US Commerce Department and Turkey will also be halted.
