According to the press service of Russia's Southern Military District, Armenian observer, Lieutenant Colonel Artur Simonyan noted that participation in the "Elbrus Ring" is appealing for Armenia as the country’s ground forces carry out missions in mountainous terrain.
He stated, "Currently, we are forming units capable of conducting operations in high mountainous conditions. Therefore, we hope to participate in these competitions and gain valuable modern experience from the best high-altitude units during our preparations for the event." This year, instructors included among the observers will accompany the competition participants through the mountainous route of the competition ring and ascend Europe's highest peak, Mount Elbrus.
The mountaineering contests, part of the International Army Games, will feature teams from Russia, Morocco, India, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
