New Revelation by NSS: 2 Individuals Arrested

The National Security Service of Armenia has revealed a case of extortion involving a group of individuals, following extensive operational-investigative measures.

According to preliminary information, two Armenian citizens met with the head of a department at one of Yerevan's medical centers under the pretext of obtaining a “preferred” medical conclusion regarding military draft. During the meeting, they conducted a pre-planned conversation demanding money, which was recorded.

Subsequently, they threatened to publish the recording containing compromising information about the department head, demanding a payment of 1,500 USD. On June 20, 2019, under the supervision of NSS employees, the sum of 1,500 USD was handed over to the individuals, after which they were arrested.

A criminal case has been initiated in the Investigative Department of NSS on the basis of the apparent crime, under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of Armenia. Charges have been brought against the two individuals, and the measure of restraint chosen is detention.

An investigation is underway.
