The Arrest Term of SSC Employee Adyan Not Extended

The Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan has rejected the National Security Service's request to extend the arrest term of Samvel Adyan, head of the procurement oversight department of the State Surveillance Service. Adyan is currently still in custody, as the two-month arrest term chosen at the beginning of the pre-trial investigation has not yet expired, according to Hetq.am.

This term will expire on April 25, after which Samvel Adyan is expected to be released.

The media notes that the court rejected the NSS’s request to extend Adyan’s arrest on April 18. On the same day, David Sanasaryan, head of the State Surveillance Service, was charged.

In response to the media's question, Aravik Khachatryan, head of the Public Relations Department of the Prosecutor General's Office, stated that the Prosecutor's Office would appeal the first-instance court's decision.

Hetq also mentions reports in the press that Samvel Adyan has testified against David Sanasaryan. Sanasaryan himself did not disclose the details of Adyan's testimony in a conversation with reporters but confirmed that he had been confronted with him.

The Criminal Procedure Code stipulates that confrontation occurs between two previously interrogated persons if there are significant contradictions in their testimonies. The investigator is obliged to conduct a confrontation if significant contradictions exist between the testimonies of the accused and another person.

Thus, it can be concluded that there are significant contradictions between the testimonies of David Adyan and Samvel Adyan.
