VIDEO: I don’t understand this nervous atmosphere, does anyone see that they are closing their airs? - Pashinyan
During a session in the National Assembly, MP Shake Isayan from the Bright Armenia faction asked Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan whether he still believes, a year later, that too many powers are concentrated in the hands of the Prime Minister.
Pashinyan replied that if the discussion is about the Police and the National Security Service, then these two used to be ministries. “Suppose we still have a Minister of Internal Affairs and a Minister of National Security today, and let’s say, there are two members of the Civil Contract party in that capacity. Is that better for you? Certainly not better. I’m not saying it's worse, but it’s not good,” he said.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the parliamentary system in Armenia today does not fully utilize all the powers reserved for itself. “In my logic, at least 5-6 investigative committees should have been established in the National Assembly. Why is this not happening? Am I not allowing it? Now, if we take the powers of the Prime Minister, place them somewhere else, and they are not used, is that good? I mean, those powers should be applied by someone,” he added.
