Garik Sargsyan Meets with Avshar School Teachers

The Governor of Ararat Province, Garik Sargsyan, held a meeting today with the entire faculty of Avshar Community Secondary School. This was reported by the Ararat Provincial Administration.

Also present at the meeting were representatives from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia, led by the head of the Department of General Education, Ashot Arshakyan, as well as the head of the Ararat regional police department, Armen Gasparyan.

The Ararat governor listened to the complaints of each member of the school staff, assuring them that he had been informed about the ongoing processes at the Avshar school from the very first day and that it was under his attention. He requested that the emerging issues be addressed not through rumors but through legal channels.

The teachers unanimously insisted that there is no legal basis for their complaints, stating that the current director, Hermine Andreasian, had insulted them as educators. According to them, the conflict with the director initially arose when she attempted to dismiss the school’s deputy director, Gayane Martirosyan.

Governor Garik Sargsyan noted that neither Gayane Martirosyan nor any other teacher from the school had been dismissed without grounds, and arbitrary dismissals could not occur. “Everyone here is protected; all are equal before the law. No one has been dismissed arbitrarily and no one will be, I guarantee that,” Sargsyan stated.

Addressing rumors circulating in the media regarding the director being a relative of the governor, Sargsyan firmly denied any familial connection and remarked that Hermine Andreasian had wished to appoint her close friend, Astghik Harutyunyan, as deputy director—who is the daughter-in-law of the governor’s aunt. However, the governor clarified that Astghik Harutyunyan works as a teacher at another school, and no order for her appointment had been issued.

“I would never abuse my official position nor ignore the laws of the country. I repeat, no one will be dismissed from the school arbitrarily,” emphasized the governor.

Sargsyan also pointed out that no one has directed the selection process for the school director, which was confirmed by the participating educators from the school council during the elections. He once again called for a prompt return to school to continue the teaching process and not violate the children’s right to education.
