The Judicial System is Being Cleansed: Galyan
We have a practice where during disciplinary proceedings, judges who feel or anticipate that the outcome may involve the termination of their powers voluntarily exit the system upon their own request. This was stated by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, Surbhi Galyan, during a discussion on the obstacles to maintaining reasonable timelines in the examination of court cases.
“I cannot say whether this is good or bad. It is bad from the perspective of citizens, to whom that judge does not seem to face the appropriate responsibility. But it is good in the sense that the judicial system is being cleansed and is truly being purified because (forgive me, but I can say this with full responsibility) we do not need judges who can examine simple claims for seven years. In this regard, we must have tools that, after filing a complaint, will not allow the replenishment of judges' ranks in the future,” stated the Minister of Justice, Surbhi Galyan.
