Attempt to Smuggle $7 Million Worth of Wild Goat Horns

Customs officials at the Pokrovka checkpoint, located on the Russian-Chinese border in the Khabarovsk region, discovered 754 horns of a wild goat in a passenger bus. The value of these horns is estimated to be 7 million rubles, according to the federal customs service.

The driver stated that the goods did not belong to him and he did not recognize the boxes hidden in the bus containing the goat horns. An expert examination confirmed that the export of such products from Russia is permitted only with the presence of documents issued by the inspection.

A criminal case has been initiated under the article on the smuggling of parts of especially valuable wild animals. The penalty for this offense includes imprisonment for up to five years and a fine of up to 1 million rubles.
