China Launches World's First Fourth Generation Nuclear Power Plant
China has launched the world's first fourth generation nuclear power plant (NPP). This was announced by the State Administration for Climate Affairs of the People's Republic of China, according to TASS.
The facility, featuring a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor, is located in the eastern Shandong province. It is reported that the nuclear plant has operated continuously for 168 hours in testing mode and has been officially handed over for commercial operation.
“This demonstrates that China has reached a global forefront in the research, development, and application of fourth generation nuclear energy technologies,” the statement published on the ministry's website said.
It clarifies that the most significant advantage of the high-temperature gas-cooled reactor is its safety in the electricity production sector, and therefore, such nuclear power plants have broad prospects.
