Corruption Scandal Behind Resignation of Ukrainian Defense Minister Reznikov: Der Spiegel
German media has detailed the reasons behind the dismissal of Ukraine's Minister of Defense Oleksii Reznikov. According to the German magazine Der Spiegel, the decision to remove Reznikov is linked to corruption scandals surrounding the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Specifically, the allegations refer to overpricing of uniforms and food supplies for Ukrainian soldiers. The authors of the article highlighted how the potential for corruption has sharply increased due to a significant expansion of the military budget, which constitutes nearly 20% of the gross domestic product.
It is worth noting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Reznikov's resignation on September 3. The new Minister of Defense will be Rustem Umerov, the head of the State Property Fund.
