We Welcome Any Initiative That Does Not Contradict Russia's Efforts: Zakharova on Macron's Statements
Moscow welcomes any initiative that does not contradict Russia's efforts aimed at the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, does not replicate or undermine them. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, while commenting on French President Emmanuel Macron's statements.
“On the other hand, France's activities in this area are known. In the framework of such mediatory efforts, it is necessary to take into account the positions of both parties to the conflict—both Armenia and Azerbaijan. Without considering the positions of both sides, it is not worth holding out hope for progress in a situation that is already quite tense,” Zakharova said.
It should be recalled that earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he would conduct negotiations with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan and would present a new diplomatic initiative for the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
