Zelensky Proposed Bolder Actions in Behind-the-Scenes Talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has suggested striking targets within Russia and attacking the pipeline supplying oil to Hungary during behind-the-scenes discussions. He advocated for a more "audacious" approach, including proposals to occupy Russian territories, blow up the pipeline, and the need for long-range missiles to hit targets within Russia, according to leaked Pentagon documents cited by the Washington Post.
At a meeting held in late January, Zelensky reportedly proposed initiating operations that would involve strikes on Russia and deploying Ukrainian forces into its territory to capture border cities. The aim of these operations would be to provide Kyiv with leverage to pressure Moscow in negotiations.
