«If there is war, then there is war»: Secretary of the Security Council

“Russian peacekeepers are in Nagorno-Karabakh and people are talking about the threat of ethnic cleansing. They have no hope of salvation. The second option is the international community. For a long time, Armenia has been lobbying for an international observer mission to be sent to Nagorno-Karabakh,” said the Secretary of the Security Council, Armen Grigoryan, in an interview with Novaya Gazeta Europe.

To the question of whether Nagorno-Karabakh is an unrecognized republic, and that the international community treats unrecognized republics with skepticism, Armen Grigoryan replied: “Unrecognized, but the international community is obliged to prevent genocide wherever it may occur. Now, under the influence of circumstances, the mood has changed. This is a very interesting topic. There is such a political discourse. Russia has begun to treat Armenia worse because a pro-Western team came to power after the revolution. Armenia did not go anywhere. We have stated from the beginning that the revolution will not affect foreign policy. Nevertheless, the attitude has changed.

There are no pro-Western sentiments in Nagorno-Karabakh. No Soros. Instead of NATO, there is a Russian peacekeeping mission. And yet, anti-Russian sentiments have appeared. Because of Russia itself, not the West. Russia itself is shaping its attitude towards itself,” he noted.

To another question about one of the hypotheses that they want to help Aliyev break through the Zangezur corridor and move to the Turkish side, where Russian gas will flow under the guise of Azerbaijani gas through this corridor to circumvent sanctions, Armen Grigoryan responded: “But this is already happening; the gas is already flowing through the existing infrastructures. I do not think that this is the issue, or at least not only this. In any case, Armenia will never agree to a trans-territorial corridor through its territory. This is a red line for us.”
