Interesting Turn: Democrats Set to Gain Control of the U.S. Senate
An interesting twist in the U.S. Congressional midterm elections: the Democratic Party has maintained control over the Senate. Such forecasts have been presented by CNN and NBC. Notably, incumbent Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez Masto has emerged victorious in Nevada, winning by a mere 0.5% over her Republican rival Adam Laxalt, based on 96% of the ballots counted.
To establish control of the Senate, a party needs to have at least 51 members supported by voters. In this scenario, following a likely runoff election in Georgia, both Democrats and Republicans are expected to hold 50 seats each. In this case, the decisive vote will belong to the Vice President, currently affiliated with the Democratic Party, who will cast her single vote in favor of the party she represents.
The final results of the elections will be published only in December, while the new composition of the bicameral legislature is set to begin its work in January.
