Russian Officials May Transition to Domestic Lada Cars

Russian officials may transition to domestically produced vehicles. This opinion was expressed by Russia's Finance Minister Anton Siluanov on June 16 during a speech at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, as reported by iz.ru.

"The state will not buy safety cushions for Lada. The government will ensure the stability and prospects of enterprises. We need to transfer state employees using Lada cars," said the minister.

He also noted that the state should assume part of the business risks to instill confidence in overcoming the situation, and that authorities are willing to take specific risks for the sale of products from domestic manufacturers, which were previously imported.

According to him, support for the industry in the form of government assistance should not become a remedy for avoiding rapid price increases and worsening the living conditions of citizens.
