VIDEO: Putin Joins 'Immortal Regiment' March with Father's Photograph
Russian President Vladimir Putin has joined the 'Immortal Regiment' march at Red Square in Moscow, according to a correspondent from RIA Novosti.
Putin participated in the 'Immortal Regiment' march in the vicinity of the History Museum, carrying a photograph of his soldier father. The President interacted with participants nearby, greeting and shaking hands with those taking part in the event.
The 'Immortal Regiment' is a nationwide event celebrated in Russia and several other countries to honor the memory of participants and victims of the Great Patriotic War. It was first held on May 9, 2012, in Tomsk, initiated by local journalists, and in 2013 it became a nationwide event.
