After Scandalous Incident, Editor of Russian Channel 'First Channel' Decides to Leave Russia

Marina Ovsyannikova, the editor of the Russian 'First Channel,' who gained notoriety after a scandal during the broadcast of the 'Vremya' program, has decided to leave Russia, according to starhit.ru.

Sources indicate that Marina may be granted asylum in Europe, but it is unlikely she will be able to take her children—a son and daughter—with her.

“In Great Britain, she is expected to be alone. More precisely, only she is being awaited,” law enforcement sources said.

Ovsyannikova had previously stated that she is a patriot and does not intend to leave Russia for any reason.

Recalling the incident, during a news broadcast on Russian 'First Channel,' editor Marina Ovsyannikova interrupted the airwaves and conducted a protest against Russia's military actions in Ukraine. She interrupted the broadcast while the host was discussing sanctions against Russia.

The woman held a sign that read: “Stop the war, do not believe the propaganda. They are lying to you here.” She called for an end to the war several times before the segment on sanctions continued.

As a result of her actions, she was fined 30,000 rubles.
