What Could Be the Minimum and Maximum Acceptable Variant for Armenia: "Iravunk"
The newspaper "Iravunk" writes: "Last week, Nikol Pashinyan announced that Armenia finds the proposals of the Russian Ministry of Defense regarding the delimitation and demarcation processes acceptable. To determine what this so-called acceptable variant might be, we sought the opinion of Ashot Melkonyan, the director of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia and an academician.
"Our minimal program should aim to restore the reality of the borders of the Republic of Artsakh as proclaimed on September 2, 1991, which would be very advantageous for the Russians. Today, there is a lot of uncertainty about which areas Russian soldiers are maintaining as peacekeepers. However, this variant would provide them with clear instructions about the borders within which they need to carry out their duties.
As for the maximum program, it could involve restoring the borders of 1994 since these correspond to the boundaries of the Khansai principality from 1736. It was not coincidental that Nadir Shah granted us this principality, which entirely encompasses that territory. In other words, this represented the natural border of Artsakh, which is also protected from neighboring areas."
