Significant Details Emerge from the Suicide Case of the Young Man Who Sat in the Deputy Speaker's Chair
NEWS.am has revealed significant details regarding the criminal case initiated after the suicide of 27-year-old Garnik Petrosyan, who entered the National Assembly building and was photographed sitting in the Deputy Speaker's chair shortly after the capitulation agreement was announced on November 9.
It appears that during the preliminary investigation, the investigators from the Investigative Committee received information about alleged threats and pressures exerted by NSS officers on Garnik Petrosyan during the interrogation in relation to another case being examined by the NSS hours before his suicide. This included threats directed at Petrosyan's sister and other circumstances significant to the case.
Moreover, according to our sources, there were other detainees present in Petrosyan's interrogation room that day, who could also be key witnesses in this case. All of this was reported to the supervising prosecutor, but the latter, under the instruction of Armenia’s Attorney General Artur Davtyan, ordered the investigator not to pursue the case or circulate this theory in any way. Instead, the prosecution hastily denied the theory that Petrosyan was murdered, instead presenting a simplistic and unconvincing narrative regarding the motives for suicide.
It is worth noting that Garnik Petrosyan jumped from the bridge on the day he was charged with assaulting the National Assembly building – on November 13 at around 22:04, just an hour after being interrogated at the NSS.
