Lebanese President to Hold Emergency Meeting of Defense Council
The President of Lebanon, Michel Aoun, will convene an emergency meeting of the country's Defense Council on Thursday evening. According to TASS news agency, citing Qatar-based Al Jazeera, the meeting will address the explosion that occurred earlier today at the Beirut port.
A fire broke out in a warehouse containing tires, fuel, and lubricants in the Beirut port area. Military helicopters have joined the firefighting efforts. According to the Lebanese Red Cross, no injuries have been reported as a result of the incident. Representatives from the civil defense forces have stated that there is no risk of fire spreading.
It is worth noting that on August 4, a powerful explosion took place in a warehouse of ammonium nitrate at the Beirut port.
