It Is Clear That a Phase of Overcoming Coronavirus Has Begun in Armenia, Prime Minister

As compared to early July, the coronavirus situation in Armenia has improved significantly. This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a press briefing following a cabinet meeting on July 29.

“Based on the data from the last 4-5 days, we can say that the number of daily new coronavirus cases has returned to the level of late May. The number of serious patients has returned to the level of late May, and the number of critically ill patients has returned to the level of early June. Of course, this comparison is relative, as unfortunately, this statistic has decreased not only due to treatments but also because of the number of deaths. During this period, 723 deaths from coronavirus have been recorded,” said Pashinyan, expressing his condolences to the families of the deceased.

He emphasized that it is evident that a phase of overcoming the coronavirus has begun in Armenia: “It is also clear that this improvement is directly related to the anti-epidemic measures, the cornerstone of which is the mandatory wearing of masks in both indoor and outdoor spaces. If we let down our guard, we can quickly return to a crisis situation and see a serious increase in numbers. We have received a chance to overcome this crisis,” Pashinyan said.

He added that he is aware that many of our citizens expect relaxation of restrictions in light of these numbers. “The relaxation of restrictions is a matter of our daily agenda, and in all cases where we see that there is such an objective opportunity, we will take advantage of it,” the Prime Minister noted. He also informed that it is unlikely that air transport will resume in August, thus urging citizens to spend their vacations in Armenia, contributing to the development of domestic tourism.
