Gas Prices Will Not Rise for Residents, Says Deputy Prime Minister

"Negotiations regarding gas prices and transportation tariffs with Russia have not concluded, and the price of blue fuel will not increase for residents. As for Putin's suggestion that gas prices could decrease if EAEU countries adopt a unified budget and tax collection system, Armenia and the Eurasian Economic Union are not ready for such a level of integration at this moment," Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan stated today during an appearance on 'Azatutyun'.

On April 1, it became known that Gazprom Armenia, the subsidiary of the Russian monopoly Gazprom, had applied to the Public Services Regulatory Commission to raise gas tariffs for consumers by an average of 11% starting July 1. The request is still under review.

Regarding this matter, Grigoryan commented, "This is a prediction, because I am not authorized to discuss or speak about final solutions or even proposals for solutions. However, there is a measurable potential problem, and there are tools for resolving that problem. I have the impression that there are all possibilities for gas prices for the population not to increase at all. Consider this an impression or an opinion, because it would not be correct for me to discuss solutions at this moment. But the potential amount that is being requested today by Armenia's Gazprom and the mass that this potential amount needs to be distributed among allows for many solutions, including one that would ensure no direct impact on the population."
