Two Citizens Detained Near the Central Bank Released
Two citizens who were detained by the police near the Central Bank for not complying with a lawful order have been released. This was reported to Armenpress by the Public Relations and Media Department of the Police of Armenia.
After leaving the police station, one of the organizers of the protest, Manuel Manukyan, told reporters that he would announce further actions on his Facebook page during a live broadcast on the evening of May 12.
He emphasized the need for the banking system to be brought to a level that serves ordinary citizens. A group of citizens organized a protest against the activities of credit organizations on May 12, in front of the Central Bank.
A police officer informed the protesters that one person could enter the building and meet with a representative of the Central Bank, but they refused this offer. They demanded that a representative of the Central Bank come out and meet with them.
Shortly after, a police representative urged the protesters to cease their actions within a reasonable timeframe, stating that actions are not allowed according to the order of the head of the cabinet, and that social distancing must be maintained. Manuel Manukyan countered that they were not conducting a protest but had come to meet with a representative of the Central Bank. He attempted to escalate the situation with loud calls, after which the police detained the citizens.
