Phone Call Data Collection is a Good Tool for Control: S. Martirosyan
The package being discussed in the National Assembly involves the collection of meta-data from citizens' phone calls, specifically who was called, when, and the duration of the call, without recording the content. This was noted by media technology expert Samvel Martirosyan on his Facebook page.
He particularly stated, “It is undoubtedly excellent that the content will not be recorded. However, this is an application of disproportionate measures since it is unclear how this could assist in terms of quarantine. On the other hand, from a standpoint of political control, this is a good tool.”
He emphasized that there is a need to create public oversight over data collection and future destruction.
