New Regulations for Freight Trucks Established in Georgia: State Revenue Committee
The State Revenue Committee informs that, based on information received from the Armenian embassy in Georgia, in light of the global spread of coronavirus, the Revenue Service of Georgia's Ministry of Finance has established new regulations for freight trucks operating within the country.
The controls are being intensified for trucks that have recently been in countries with a high risk of coronavirus transmission, including China, South Korea, Italy, Iran, Austria, Germany, France, Norway, Switzerland, Spain, and Denmark, over the last 14 days.
Specifically, drivers who have been in these countries will be accompanied throughout their transit through Georgia, from checkpoint to checkpoint. Drivers of trucks that have been in those countries in the past two weeks and are importing goods to Georgia will be replaced by individuals not belonging to the risk group, and the customs authority will conduct disinfection of the vehicles.
If the driver of the freight truck is a foreign national, they will return to the country from which they arrived, while if they are a Georgian citizen, they will be sent to quarantine. In other cases, the freight truck may be replaced with a non-risk vehicle; the customs service will disinfect the trailer, and the truck will be sent back in the direction from which it came.
If it is impossible to replace the driver, the vehicle will reach the nearest checkpoint, where the cargo will be transferred to another vehicle.
As for drivers and goods from countries outside the risk zone, they will be subjected to strict checks; their temperature and presence of any symptoms will be verified. If a foreign driver shows signs of illness, they will be returned to the country of arrival. Georgian drivers will be sent to quarantine, while the goods will undergo inspection under procedures for cargoes brought from high-risk countries.
