Transitioning to Passive Duty: 'Amulsar Protectors'
The 'Amulsar Protectors' initiative has issued a statement on Facebook, announcing that in light of the state of emergency in the country and its conditions, they are changing their position maintenance regime and transitioning to passive duty.
“The positions at Amulsar are located at the edge of the ascending road near the town of Jermuk. Often, people, concerned friends, relatives, and passersby gather at these positions. This means that the positions themselves serve as congregation points, which is extremely dangerous during this pandemic. We, the guards, could get infected and become carriers of the virus within the entire community. Therefore, considering the state of emergency in the country and its conditions, we are changing our position maintenance regime and transitioning to passive duty.
The positions will be under periodic surveillance, and naturally, as has been the case in the past two years, no movement on the mountain will be allowed. Any attempts will be thwarted by us and will receive a strong response. There will be no mine opened in Amulsar; we have proven this with our determination by constantly guarding the mountain and protecting our homeland's nature from outsiders over the past nearly two years.
We wish health to all those suffering in our country, from coronavirus to those affected by the mining activities,” the statement reads.
