Approximately 140 Armenian Citizens at Upper Lars Checkpoint Provided with Food
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement regarding the situation at the Upper Lars checkpoint. Currently, around 140 Armenian citizens are at the Upper Lars checkpoint.
The Consul General of Armenia in Rostov-on-Don, Vardan Asoyan, has arrived at the checkpoint and is coordinating efforts to provide citizens with food and essential supplies.
It has been reported that some citizens, responding to the consul general's recommendation, have already opted for air travel back to Armenia.
Negotiations are underway with Georgian counterparts to find possible solutions to the issue. We urge Armenian citizens to assess the current situation soberly, to trust only official information, and to rely on the information provided by the Armenian diplomatic representations.
Earlier, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed that the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars highway remains closed due to adverse weather conditions, particularly the Gudauri-Kobi section.
According to the decision of the Georgian government, starting from March 18, the entry of all foreigners into Georgia has been prohibited. Therefore, even if weather conditions improve and the highway leading to Lars opens, only trucks and Georgian and Russian citizens returning to their countries will be allowed to cross the Russian-Georgian border. The Upper Lars checkpoint remains indefinitely closed to foreigners.
