Uber Faces Issues in London as Residents Raise Concerns

Uber has faced significant setbacks in one of its largest markets, London. The transport authority for the city indicates that Uber is still not a "fit and proper" mode of transport.

London transit officials have announced the decision to extend Uber's license, resulting in Uber not operating in the city starting midnight on Monday.

The company has stated that it will appeal the decision and continues to provide services in London while the appeals process and regulation reviews are underway.
"The London transport authority identified disruptions caused by the company, which posed risks to passengers and their safety," the transit officials' statement noted.

It is worth remembering that in 2017, London refused to renew Uber's license due to various concerns, including how the company responded to serious crimes. However, Uber appealed this decision and was later permitted to operate for 15 months. At the end of September, Uber was granted an additional two-month license.

London is one of five global cities that account for Uber's bookings alongside Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and São Paulo.
Recently, Uber reported that 3.5 million Londoners regularly use their service app.
Uber has 45,000 drivers operating in London.
