Thieves Rob the Green Vault Museum

In Dresden, unknown thieves have broken into the Green Vault Museum, which holds the largest collection of treasures in Europe. This was reported on November 25 by Deutsche Welle, citing the police.

According to Bild publication, the criminals stole diamonds and other valuable items from the museum. The damage could amount to millions of euros, the newspaper notes. Based on its information, the robbers entered the museum through a window after previously cutting the building's power.

The Green Vault Museum houses exhibits made of gold, silver, and precious stones, as well as items made from ivory and other precious materials. The museum got its name because one of the hallways used to have columns painted a green color.

The treasury suffered serious damage during World War II, and its collection was housed for a long time in Dresden's Albertinum art museum. The Green Vault reopened its doors to visitors after reconstruction in 2006, Interfax reported.
