Marukyan and Pashinyan on Ryanair's Entry into Armenian Air Transport Market
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan wrote on his Facebook page: “Ryanair has officially announced that it will enter the Armenian air transport market in January 2020, and from January 2020, it will operate regular flights from Rome to Yerevan and from Milan to Yerevan. Moreover, starting from summer, flights will also commence from Berlin to Yerevan. More importantly, flights from Munich to Gyumri will begin in summer. Ryanair’s entry into our market will undoubtedly increase the flow of tourists to Armenia and will lead to a decrease in airfare prices. I would like to remind that for all those routes for which flights have not been operated from Yerevan or Gyumri in the past year, the government is obliged to eliminate the 'air tax,' and additionally, there will be financial incentives for Gyumri. I must emphasize that this is an open offer that all local and foreign airlines can take advantage of. Ryanair has become the first swallow.”
Edmon Marukyan, the leader of the 'Enlightened Armenia' parliamentary faction, also commented on the issue, stating: “A few months ago, I criticized the President of Civil Aviation Tatevik Revazyan for giving less attention to Gyumri's airport, as well as criticized that according to the preliminary agreement with Ryanair, flights would be operated not from Shirak but from Zvartnots airport. I suggested that flights be organized from Gyumri. This morning, we learned that the Irish Ryanair company will launch flights from Yerevan to Rome and Milan in January 2020, and in summer to Berlin, as well as from Gyumri airport to Memmingen at an average cost of €35. I welcome the government’s decision and achievement to also organize Ryanair flights from Gyumri airport.”
