Protest Action near the Erebuni Museum Auto Market
In Yerevan, auto importing organizations are staging a protest demanding the government address issues in the sector. The president of the auto importers' union, Tigran Hovhannisyan, told Tert.am that there have been ongoing problems related to auto imports in Georgia for a considerable time.
“As long as the Prime Minister of Georgia visits Armenia, I demand that Nikol Pashinyan speaks with him to understand the issues at hand. Our citizens are being fined in Poti, and vehicles are not being unloaded from the freight containers deliberately, causing delays. If this continues, we will be forced to take action,” he elaborated.
Tigran Hovhannisyan also expressed opposition to the decision to relocate the customs office to Gyumri, emphasizing that they are preparing to block the Nubarashen road.
Participants in the protest stated that relevant authorities have been informed about these issues but no concrete solutions have been offered. “They are just putting a soft pillow under our heads; the problem is not being resolved,” said one of the participants.
Police are present in the area, periodically urging participants not to block the road and to refrain from illegal actions. Tigran Hovhannisyan referred to this as a conspiracy by the State Revenue Committee. He had a conversation with Acting Chief of Police Arman Sargsyan, urging him to resolve the issue or come to the site.
Later, representatives of the protesting auto importers agreed to hold a meeting with the Acting Chief of Police. Others continued their protest near the auto market adjacent to the Erebuni Museum.
