Vardan Srmakesh's Advice to Laid-Off Gyumri Women: Go to Court

As previously reported by SHANTNEWS.am, a ceremony took place today for the relaunch of the Maralik cotton-manufacturing factory. One of the co-owners of the factory is Swiss-Armenian businessman Vardan Srmakesh, who addressed reporters in Maralik. He responded to the complaints of employees from the Gyumri-based 'Sastex' company.

It is worth noting that around 70 employees from 'Sastex' had been laid off due to dissatisfaction with salary levels and working conditions. Vardan Srmakesh pointed out that conflicts between employers and employees exist in all countries, and Armenia is no exception. He stated, 'I live in Switzerland and can say that similar conflicts occur daily in Switzerland and France. Conflicts arise, then are resolved. I have learned from the co-owner of the factory, Christian Gelej, that these women did not master the specific technology of sewing. He trained them and paid money. Then I saw that 60 people were working there; there are no problems. This is a country of rules. Indeed, if there are violations, they will go and sue. That’s how the issue stands.'

According to him, everything is normal at 'Sastex' now, with 60 employees working there. Srmakesh advised those who believe their rights have been violated to go to court.
