Why Hayk Marutyan Is Not Leading the Council Meeting: Hrachya Sargsyan
Today, the Yerevan City Council meeting is being led not by Mayor Hayk Marutyan, but by his first deputy Hrachya Sargsyan.
The leader of the Council's 'Luys' faction, David Khazhakyan, inquired about the reason: 'It is true that it is legally stipulated that the meeting should be conducted by you, but I think there is a desire from the council to be informed about the reasons for the mayor’s absence. However, this is an unusual case for us; it has only happened once that the deputy mayor led the meeting, and I hope nothing has happened.'
The deputy mayor responded, 'No, nothing unusual has happened; the mayor was just feeling a bit unwell, which is why he was unable to conduct the meeting.'
