After the Failure of His Proposed Candidate, Armen Sarkissian Issues New Directive
The President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, has signed a directive regarding the regulation of the election of a candidate for the Constitutional Court judge. This was announced by the public relations department of the President's office.
“Based on the first part of Article 139 of the Constitution, as well as the fourth part of Article 17 of the constitutional law on the 'Constitutional Court', and aiming to ensure the implementation of the authority specified in the first part of Article 166 of the Constitution:
- The head of the President’s Office shall:
- Organize an announcement on the official website of the President of the Republic regarding the nomination of a candidate for the Constitutional Court judge by April 19 of this year, as well as the list of requirements for judge candidates stipulated by the Constitution and laws along with the required supporting documents. The deadline for submitting these to the President's Office is set for May 3 of this year, by 18:00.
- By May 6 of this year, submit to the President the list of candidates who applied for the position of Constitutional Court judge and the documents (copies) they provided.
- Organize individual discussions with candidates applying for the position of Constitutional Court judge by May 15 of this year, including other potential candidates proposed by the President.
- At the instruction of the President, organize meetings between the President and distinguished legal scholars and other reputable representatives of the legal community to obtain opinions regarding possible candidates for the Constitutional Court judge position.
