Ceasefire in Ukraine Could Turn the Region into a New Nagorno-Karabakh: Medinsky
Vladimir Medinsky, the assistant to the President of Russia and the head of the Russian delegation in negotiations with Kyiv, has drawn parallels between the occupied territories of Ukraine and Nagorno-Karabakh, referring to the latter as a disputed area between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Medinsky stated that a cessation of military operations in Ukraine could lead to a situation similar to that in Nagorno-Karabakh. “If we don’t agree on peace now and only sign some ceasefire, then that region will turn into a huge Karabakh. After some time, Ukraine will try to conquer it with NATO’s help, and that will be the end of the planet; it will lead to nuclear war. We do not want a new unrecognized Karabakh to be created, which could trigger nuclear conflict,” he said.
He emphasized that Russia aims to sign a comprehensive peace agreement recognizing new territories. It was previously reported that Russia officially recognized Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan's territory.
