Andranik Kocharyan: "There Were Disturbing Factors That Prevented Us from Knowing When the Enemy Would Attack"

The lack of information regarding the start of a war indicates that we have significant work to do within the military and the security structures in general. This was stated by Andranik Kocharyan, the chairman of the National Assembly’s Defense and Security Committee, during a conversation with journalists today, June 27, regarding why the army was unaware of the attack in September 2020 and why our strategic ally Russia did not inform us about it.

“We must learn lessons from all of this; the army should have no shortcomings. This must be projected onto all security structures. Everything should be sterile,” he said.

In response to the question of whether he finds it objective not to sense an approaching war indicated by various indicators, as well as the Russian side's statement that everything would be fine if the Armenian side did not provoke, Kocharyan replied, “Yes, there were disturbing factors that prevented us from knowing when the enemy would attack and at what time. There is constant talk about the 5th column and their potential influence. It seems that everyone feels that there are forces that have favored certain interests. But all our powers should have contributed to the interests of our country.”
