VIDEO: What the UN Office Offered to Protest Participants - Hovsepian Provides Details
The UN office in Armenia made several proposals, all of which are unacceptable. This statement was made by former MP Sofia Hovsepian during a conversation with journalists after exiting the office.
Earlier, we reported that Hovsepian had organized a protest near the office in support of the people blockaded in Artsakh. The protesters brought milk mixtures and asked the UN office to deliver them to Artsakh.
“To prevent the milk mixtures from spoiling, they suggested that we transfer them to the 'Mission Armenia' organization, which would distribute them to Artsakh families residing in Armenia. I said that we know the whereabouts of those families better than anyone else; we have helped many of them and continue to do so today. This is for the children in Artsakh,” noted Hovsepian.
According to her, she was also told that there is not a single international organization in Armenia that has the right to enter the territory of Artsakh today.
“I understood that this has also happened with the light hand of our authorities since they have accepted that Artsakh belongs to Azerbaijan,” emphasized Hovsepian.
Another option was proposed: the UN office in Armenia would contact the Azerbaijani office. Since this is a humanitarian issue related to the right to life of children, the Azerbaijani office would deliver the milk mixture to the children.
Hovsepian stated that she categorically rejected this option. Following this, some attendees started chanting “shame” directed at the office.
The protest participants decided to remain in front of the office building, insisting that the milk mixtures be delivered to their destination. It is worth noting that on December 12, 2022, a group of Azerbaijanis in civilian clothes closed the Stepanakert-Goris highway linking Artsakh to Armenia under the pretext of environmental reasons, and they left on April 28, after Azerbaijan installed a checkpoint on the Lachin corridor on April 23, taking full control of it. Furthermore, following an Azerbaijani provocation near the Hakari Bridge on the morning of June 15, all humanitarian passenger and cargo transfers through the Lachin corridor were prohibited by Azerbaijan.
