Turkey's Parliament Passes Law to Strengthen Control Over Social Media

Turkey's Parliament has passed a law aimed at strengthening control over social media platforms. According to this decision, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other international social media networks are required to open their offices in Turkey. These legal entities will be held responsible for the content of publications that contain inaccurate information on their platforms. This is reported by mk.ru.

Additionally, they will be required to take measures to prevent the spread of such information. For instance, if Facebook refuses to open its office in Turkey, access to the platform could be completely blocked in the country.

The ruling elite has taken this step following offensive remarks directed at Turkey's President Erdoğan's son-in-law, who is the country's finance minister, by Twitter users after the disclosure of information about the birth of his fourth child in the press.
