Non-Functional Devices Found in Computers Sent by National Assembly
The newspaper "Haykakan Jamanak" reports that on April 3, the National Assembly of Armenia announced the dispatch of 85 computers to families in Tavush and Gegharkunik regions with four or more school-aged children, aiming to make distance learning more accessible. This was personally announced by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ararat Mirzoyan.
However, residents from Tavush province informed "Haykakan Jamanak" that some of the computers sent were non-functional, leading them to return the devices to the provincial administration. An individual who spoke to us on the condition of anonymity stated that the computer was returned to the governor's office and the issue was resolved differently. Furthermore, we learned that this is not an isolated incident; reports of returning malfunctioning computers have also been registered in other regions.
"Haykakan Jamanak" turned to the head of the National Assembly staff, Tigran Galstyan, to inquire whether the provided computers were defective. If so, why were they given to underprivileged residents? In response, Tigran Galstyan stated that they have not received any returned computers claiming malfunction.
"We have all checked, and there have been no defective computers. We have not been contacted regarding any malfunctions. I should mention that we provide computers to families that did not have any computers, and therefore we are willing to repair them if there are any issues. Additionally, we are specifically organizing the procurement of webcams as well," he noted, adding that they have only received one request during this time.
"We were approached once, and the reason was related to updates of the software, which the user mistakenly downloaded from the internet," he mentioned. Thus, although malfunctioning computers were returned by residents, they did not reach the National Assembly.
