ISIS Fighters May Pose Threats Near CIS Southern Borders

Following their defeat in Syria, fighters from the Islamic State terrorist organization may relocate to other regions and pose threats near the southern borders of the CIS. This was stated today by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting of CIS state leaders.

He indicated that a threatening situation could emerge in the Balkan states, Central Asia, and along the southern borders of the CIS. It is worth noting that while Armenia is also located in the southern part of the CIS, Putin's remarks primarily concern Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.

The concern stems from the fact that representatives of the Islamic State and other terrorist organizations are currently hiding in Afghanistan, just south of these countries. This poses a risk that these CIS nations may be targeted by terrorists.
